I can't believe it has been almost THREE months since I cried, literally, while writing the post about our Bella Lu having heartworms! She went into treatment in January, just after the New Year and we were devastated knowing that we had rescued her a year ago last year and never had a clue -- evidently, she must have been in such an early stage that it is not seen until it gets worse.
I wrote the post with tears of sadness and of fear -- asking if anyone knew anything or could offer feedback, I would love it. Well, I received TONS of emails and comments on the Blog with support and just amazing kindness and love. I have to tell all of you that although, I cried even more when I read each one, my heart was overwhelmed!
Since then, at least once a week I get an email or a phone call or when we are just out and about, folks asking how she is doing! Talk about doing a heart good! And I think this has done not only mine and Colin's heart good, but most importantly, our baby Bella! She is now a week away from her 3 month term in the crate, being taken out on leash only, relegated to my office space when eating and being held when moving from one space to another and most important, unable to play and tease her sister Mandi who lays next to Bella's crate everyday waiting patiently!
BUT with that said, this little girl has led the life of a queen! First of all, her crate was totally "renovated" - pictures are below -- talk about the life of a little queen!? And Colin and I quickly changed our lives in order to accommodate "cuddle" time with our baby so she wasn't in a crate 24/7 -- he takes her out early morning (rain, snow or shine) and she complains getting out of her crate (seriously grumbles at him the whole time!), then he brings her back in to me where she gets about an hour of cuddle time before my day starts (and I will confess, sometimes it is a little bit more than just an hour!). She is in her crate for a few hours and then I try and manage cuddle time for a bit middle of the day -- if we are lucky and it is pretty outside, I take her out and we lay side by side in the sun (SHE is a total sun goddess!). Colin comes home and he either crawls in the crate half way to give/get kisses or takes her to cuddle while I make dinner. And then, we have been calling it an early night almost every night with the excuse that Miss Bella Lu needs a cuddle so she gets in between us, and settles into her baby blanket and cuddles until it is time to go to sleep for the night and she readily gets in her smaller crate next to the bed and settles in for the night with little complaint!
Yeah, I think she's done alright and for all the worries we had about being able to do it, we did and although at times, not so easy, for the pure love of our little baby girl, it was a "done deal" and we didn't think twice about it! Amazing how that works, huh?
Anyway, here are a few snapshots taken over the past few months of our time with Bella and her "life during heartworms". Thanks to all of you for your support & kind words - they meant more than you will ever know!
